2017: A Year in (Book) Review
I'm going to be honest...I did such a shit job at fulfilling my 2017 TBR. I feel as if all I did in 2017 was complain about how much school work I had to do and then proceed to forget to read ANY books. But don't worry everyone, there's always 2018!
1. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
I'm going to blame this on my friend Sarah. She bought this series for me for my birthday and has managed to give it to me like a week ago (my birthday was in June). SO, I haven't been able to start reading the series until yesterday. However I just finished the first book and I love it already. Jenny Han always does really good YA series' that explores not only love but also the themes of family and friendship. SO GOOD.
2. The Darkest Mind Series by Alexandra Bracken
I read Never Fade in January and thought it was pretty awesome. However, I then proceeded to forget this series ever existed. I have the last book on my phone, I just haven't pushed myself to read it yet. I think because Never Fade got really intricate and complicating, that it puts me off the last book.
3. The Narnia Chronicles by C.S. Lewis
The thing about the Narnia Chronicles - it's essentially a children's series. So reading it as a nineteen year old is a struggle and a half. But apparently they're finishing off the movie series so that means I REALLY have to get on it. There's always 2018.
4. The Raven Cycle Series by Maggie Stiefvater
I finished the second book in this series at the start of this year and I have the third one waiting for me. But I didn't want to finish this series without having the fourth book and you can't buy that in paperback version until 2018. So 2018 is the year for the Raven Boys! Honestly though, if there were any fictional characters I would be in love with, (other than Sirius Black) it would be the Raven Boys.
5. Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
I haven't started this series because the last book only comes out in late 2018. And then the thing with a Cassandra Clare novel is that once you start reading one, you need to read the next one...and then the next one, and then the next one. It's a vicious cycle and I am not prepared to spend my days crying over a cliffhanger because the last book has yet to be released.
6. Lorali by Laura Dockrill
I did read this book! And it was dumb. The ending was shit. The characters were shit and slightly confusing and I just felt as if there was no character development whatsoever. It was like the mermaid didn't want to be the mermaid and the human didn't want to be a human, like how cliche. And I didn't really find any characters compelling enough to like. Unfortunately not my favourite.
7. The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver
Honestly I forgot how much I loved this series and how great the premise for this series was. I finished this and it just left me wanting more and more. The characters were all so different from each other that it made reading about each of them so good. I especially love Raven. And ugh I'm just so sad that this series is over and I just want to cry.
8. Royal Tour, the second book in the Potion Diaries series by Amy Alward
I've put this on my Christmas list so I already know one of my friends will have bought this for me for Christmas yaas go my friends. So I'll read both the second and third books in 2018.
In reality I read 2/8 of my 2017 TBR because I am pathetic. I just get sidetracked! But it's fine, it's fine. We'll get there eventually!
Much Love
