Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven // Spoiler Free Discussion

Image
I will be the first to admit I didn't like All The Bright Places , so picking up Holding Up the Universe was a leap of faith. But I surprisingly really really liked it. I just wanted to cry with how much I liked it and how great it was. I don't have a bad word to say about it. My favourite thing about this book was the diverse characters. Both Libby and Jack are very different from your stereotypical protagonist. Libby was known as America's fattest teen and she is now in a place where she has lost a lot of her weight but she's still considered 'fat'. And so her journey in this book is very much dealing with body image issues and also dealing with people who think they are above her because of her weight. Despite this, Libby is a bad ass. She is confident (although she falters from time to time) and super caring. She's an aspiring character for readers. Jack is a pretty diverse character too. He's half African American and Jewish if I remember c...

The Bachelor Season 21 Episode 1 // Recap

Image
And Bachelor season is back again! YAS YAS YAS! First things first the new Bachelor is Nick Viall. Was anyone else surprised? I'm not going to lie, Nick was not my first choice, I didn't really care for him if I am honest but I didn't dislike him so it's not like I'm angry that he's the Bachelor. I have to admit that I am really upset that Luke Pell is not the Bachelor because I freakin LOVED HIM. I loved his attitude and everything about him. I couldn't even write a Bachelorette Finale Recap because of how sad I was that he wasn't Jojo's final one. But regardless of who the Bachelor is, I am really glad that the show is back. I can't wait to see who Nick falls in love with. I just AH I'm so excited. This year the girls were less crazy when it came to limo exits. Which I don't  know if I like or not. But I feel as if Dolphin Girl made up for that. And that girl on the camel. And the 15 girls dressed in red. Which I found so f...

Nov/Dec Read, Reading and To Be Read

Image
I don't know why I haven't been reading recently but I've just been in this really big reading slump. I think it's because I've been working more often now and once I finish work I just want to sleep or watch a TV show rather than have to strain my eyes to read. BUT, worry not, I have been forcing myself to read literally for the sake of this post! Although I have to admit even though I haven't been reading, I've been buying so many books it's unreal. Unreal to me and unreal to my bank account. Read I grew up reading The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (I mean I probably shouldn't have been reading the series when I was 11). Princess Mia and Michael was like the first couple I ever shipped. Everyone related to Princess Mia; I mean she's royalty but likes her cat more than she does real people. I was feeling a bit nostalgic and read the final book of the series and I had NO IDEA that Meg Cabot wrote a small sequel to the series called Royal ...

I Got More Makeup!

Image
My guilty pleasure is walking around Chemist Warehouse. Which then leads to me spending more money than I should (it's so bad, I should stop). After a while of using them I thought I could now give an accurate opinion on them. Elf Cosmetics Concealer  I had such high hopes for this concealer. This was the first product of Elf Cosmetics I've tried and I hate to say that I was disappointed. I use the last shade on the right. At first touch it is really moist. So I thought that this would work with me. In reality it begins to feel really dry under my eyes and actually start to flake after some time. It also just sits in my creases under my eyes no matter how much I blend it. I'll probably give this concealer one more try before I decide to say hell no. L'oreal True Match Foundation  Rant alert: You have no idea how hard it is to find foundation that is my shade. I am a dark-skinned girl living in a white make-up world. Sorry if that offends you b...

Marchesa New York Spring/Summer Ready to Wear 2017 // NYFW

Image
My excuse as to why this post is a month after Fashion Week: I went away for a week and then I came back and I was swarmed with like a million assignments and was like ah. But I'm back now yay!  ANYWAYS, back to fashion. I love Marchesa. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are geniuses and everything they create is just magical. I got a very ethereal vibe from this collection. I found myself feeling like I was in a dream but it also felt slightly grunge.  The story I (as in, my opinion which is subject to be wrong so don't take my word for it, haha), got from this collection was the main character from a book going into an adventure and turning bad even though they still had some little bouts of good in them. You can see this through the progression of looks going through. It goes from being very light, airy and flowy to something very 'fairy-princess gone bad', with the darker fabrics. The whole collection is very flowy. The fabrics all flow and dance when th...

August: Read, Reading and To be Read

Image
I'm only one month into university and I have already read SO MUCH LESS. It's not my fault okay. It's because every unit I'm doing makes me read like 50 pages each and it kills me. It's not even like novels (which you think you'd get when doing creative writing) but it's like reading on what diegesis and the power of language. Tell you what, if anything, I feel right smart! I do know yes, this is September. I'm struggling ok. Please tolerate me haha. I'm going to do two read's and one reading and just skip the 'to be read.' Read This month I finished reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgernstern. I didn't actually know this, but this book came out of Nanowrimo (National Writing month for November. You should look it up it's very good for aspiring writers). I just think it's really cool that this novel came out of a writing competition basically anyone can enter. The book is about Celia who is a magician. She operat...
